Ralex Racing School (RALEX Sports Club): Racing

Why is a racing school needed? Why do people like to experience extreme situations? Why does man want to try himself in situations where special equipment is needed? It is stuffy, the car jumps upon the unpaved surface, flying, the engine bursting and roaring. And you are driving. There is the noise, screech, squeal of the brakes!

It seems that it is impossible to stand more than fifteen minutes of this. It is impossible to compare this to anything….

It is from this that children must be educated, so that there would be no automobile accidents and so that there would be the correct attitude toward automobiles. People that have been in an accident experienced shock, fear. And this became a huge psychological barrier. These people have said that "this course, this school – is priceless ".

The RALEX Racing School has received an overwhelmingly positive response. It counts close to 400 graduates. Surprisingly, the opening of the school did not need to be advertised. Lovers of sports driving found out about the school themselves and came to register.
The school is presently closed. Israeli legislation was not ready for the development of automotive sports. And the autoclub had to be closed. Even though everything was ready for races and racing. Everything, including the most beautiful invitations. Everything, except government officials.

 

According to definition, if a country is part of the United Nations, it must promote international tourism – including automotive. And this means – there must be automotive and motorcycle clubs, there must be development of auto and motosport. Take Cyprus, for example. A small country on an island in the Mediterranean sea, but autosport has been developed extraordinarily. Automobile competition here is one of the leading competitions in the world. Cyprus has six automobile clubs. A school for the preparation of marshals (automobile judges on racing tracks) has been developed. Auto- and motosport is not simply a fascinating spectacle. It is an inflow of tourists, development of infrastructure, inflow of money and regional development. It is the education of the culture of driving, the education of young people to have a serious and responsible attitude towards machinery and driving.

The building of the track and establishment of the racing school in Ashdod was begun by Rafi Hershkovich, an enthusiast of automotive sport, with the active support of the city mayor, Zvi Zilker. Much labor, technology, money and hard work were devoted to building the track. Work went on during the day and night. Building professionals worked during the day; in the evening, staff of RALEX Autoservice also worked. During the day, they were mechanics; the rest of the time, they were builders. Work on the track didn't always go smoothly and calmly. Attempts to hinder the construction, to stop the work on the track by any means continued. There were threats, and extortion, and frank vandalism. Garbage was dumped on the track, old automobiles were brought and left on the building site. This was done so that it would be impossible to remove them from the site without special permission from the Israeli courts – alien ownership.

It was with a great effort that the track was built ideally level. And it was littered with old cars to hinder construction. A huge trailer was placed to bar the way. Someone tried to pull out the new fence. And no-one wanted to get involved. Wasn't it the mafia?

Finally, the track was built. The process of preparation of the equipment began. Much of it was made in the RALEX Autoservice garage. Preparation of autoracing is a huge process, where it is necessary to prepare many important things, from the special personal driver's equipment, signal flags and telephones to the special equipment for putting out fires. Of special significance is the preparation and training of marshals. Marshals are automobile judges on the track. They are also specialists for regulating traffic on the road. They also ensure the highest safety for the participants and the spectators. They are also the ones who put out the fire during an accident.

For the creation of the RALEX Racing School, it was decided to invite representatives of one the Cyprus automobile clubs. A judge of international standing in automotive sport was invited. He was one of the leading specialists in the education of automobile sports judging – in educating the marshals. Many lessons took place on the track. There was both theory and practice: how to sit in the car, and what the mistakes could be, how to correctly turn off a stopping car, from which side to approach, how to correctly extinguish a fire, how to properly hold a fire extinguisher.

Unfortunately, it is all only a memory now. Officials from the Ministry of Transportation declare that they are concerned about the problems of automobile accidents on the roads. The Ministry of Finance is ready to provide funds for a "good" program that solves the problem of automobile accidents. But all this resembles populist verbiage. Until the present, there is no law about automobile transport in the Israeli parliament – the Knesset. And, in the meantime, in Ashdod, stands idle a wonderful track and a ready autoschool. There is a sea of potential students. They've been waiting for a while. It's all right. They'll wait. As they say, "Liat, liat" ("little by little, Hebrew).
