SPITFIRE-TRIUMPH at RALEX Autoservice

The restoration of the “Triumph” automobile was not a particularly significant event in the restoration history of the RALEX Autoservice garage. The work was interesting in that it was a wonderful means of education for a young man, a teenager, and helped him to find his own way, his trade and specialization.

In 1997, Rafi Hershkovich received an unusual request from a visitor. His son, like other children his age, having been at the RALEX Classic Car Museum, was absolutely delighted by the antique cars, which had received a “second life” after restoration at RALEX Autoservice. He dreamed of owning a car like one of the ones in the museum, and saw Rafi as a magician, able to work miracles. The father of the teenager, noticing this passion in his son, found a used automobile for the youngster and asked Rafi to restore the car, but with the additional request that his son participate in the restoration process. Rafi agreed.

The automobile in need of the restoration was a “Triumph”, a model which came off the manufacturing line in the 1960s, more than 30 years ago. However, the car was not too badly damaged and after six months of restoration, came out of the Ralex Autoservice garage completely renewed.

All the stages of restoration work took place before the eyes of the young man. He participated in the restoration process whenever possible - he washed, cleaned, and polished. The restoration of the automobile was a ‘good push in the right direction’ for him. And so, the young man graduated from college as an engineer-designer. He picked a subject connected to automobiles for his graduation thesis and defended the thesis with work at the Ralex Autoservice garage - “on the job training”, as they say.
