Restoration of the
Dodge-Brothers automobile
If
automobiles celebrated birthdays, then this car would
have 80 candles on it’s birthday cake...
80 years ago, in 1924, the Dodge
Brothers company ceased to exist. This happened after
its founders, the brothers Dodge, died in an accident
during an automobile race. If not for this tragic event,
many new and innovative models of automobiles would have
been manufactured by this famous automobile company.
Unfortunately, however, today, automobiles with the
brand name “Dodge Brothers” exist only as a rare sight…
Even though the automobile that we
are about to describe changed hands several times, there
were, practically, no unusual problems with its
restoration. The owner of the car, an attorney, turned
to Ralex Autoservice in November of 1997 and requested
to make some small cosmetic repairs.
The
first impression of the condition of the automobile was
positive. However, afterwards, when the mechanics began
to “dig”, it became apparent that the car needed serious
repairs. Underneath the filler was rust. Rust is like
cancer cells – if you don’t get rid of it, the car will
begin to come apart, and serious problems will begin to
appear…
The car needed capital repairs. To
just “smudge and paint” was to destroy the automobile.
It was lucky that the automobile fell into good hands.
It was being taken care of by specialists, who sincerely
loved what they did for a living. Quietly and
methodically, the car was restored to its previous
glory.
Broken or unavailable parts were
manufactured. Even the wooden steering wheel was
restored so that, to this day, it has not even a single
crack it.
When the car was brought to the
garage, it was painted a black colour. The specialists
wanted to give it a special colouring to bring out its
beauty and classic lines. Something befitting this
brand. Something in a Gregorian style, something… Well,
the Dodge Brothers is a classic car. Everything turned
out perfectly.
On May 28, 1998, the newly completely
restored car, with its well-picked out new colors, was
presented in front of the participants of the
international “London-Jerusalem-Ashdod Rally”.
Today, this automobiles is still in
perfect working order, participates in exhibitions and
goes out “for a spin” on holidays.
